Pro Wrestling over the years has had alot of Main Stream events from the NWA to WWE and all of them were top notch event's. But Two Events have been Luring on my mind for Years since i was a young boy, Who was better Starrcade Or Wrestlemania? Alot of people would say Wrestlemania!! But alot of People have also said Starrcade!! But There can be only one winner...
So lets take a blast from the past and try to answer This Age Old Question ?
In The 1980's There were to territory's One in the south(NWA), the other in the North(WWF)Both run by Promotors, Jim Crockett(NWA) and Vince Mcmahon(WWF). Around that time there was no Pay-per-view channels, only Close Cuircut Television. Starrcade Began as a tour back in 1983, it's first main event was Ric Flair vs. Harley Race for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, Ric Flair Won The World Title for a 3rd time on that night. Starrcade would gather large crowds from little arenas to Baseball stadiums over the next four years, Starrcade would reach The pay-per-view Cuircut in 1988. In 1985 the WWF had it's first event to reach Close Cuircut Television, it was Named Wrestlemania on that night the main event was a tag team match, Rowdy Roddy Piper & Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorf with Cowboy Bob Ortan in their corner vs. Hulk Hogan & Mr. T with Jimmy Superfly Snuka in their corner.
The match was great and the winners were Hulk Hogan & Mr. T, Wrestlemania didn't reach Pa-per-view Status until 1987. The crowd attendence for both events were Huge over the years, but The WWF Broke The record in 1987 at Wrestlemania III with 93,793 People at the silverdome at pontiac Michigan. Both championship titles from both the NWA & the WWF would change hands from time to time. Special Matches were added to both Starrcade & Wrestlemania over the years like, I Quit match, steel Cage Match, bull rope match, Ladder match, scafaled match, Iron man match, tables match, and Money in the bank match.
Starrcade was called "The Grand daddy of the all" & Wrestlemania was called "The Greatest Event in Sports Entertainment." Over The Years Both events held their own, and lived up to it's expectations in pro wrestling. The Question is Who's Better?
(NWA) Starrcade 1983-2000.
(WWF/WWE) Wrestlemania 1985 - Present.
I gotta say starrcade
ReplyDeletei agree, Starrcade has been around for years, and brought alot of excitment. Plus some of the WWE hall of famers started out in the NWA and wrestled at starrcade before jumping ship.
